Possible Bedding?

Friday, June 29, 2012

We have lived in our new home for over a month now.  Hold up - correction.  Going on almost two months.  Yikes, time is flying!  Anyways, since moving in we have yet to find furniture for our master bedroom.  C&I are very picky when it comes to just about everything.  We've been in every furniture store in the state of Minnesota at least 4 times.  I'm beginning to think the sales people are recognizing us.  Just when I think we found the perfect bedroom furniture set, I find something about it I just can't live with.  It's great that we are picky since in the end we'll end up with furniture we'll love for years to come, but because of our pickiness, we've been sleeping in a guest bedroom since we've closed.  We have this big beautiful master bedroom with french doors that we haven't even been able to enjoy.  It's frustrating.

But I know one day we'll find furniture we love and the days of sleeping in our guest bedroom will be over.  To tide me over until that time I've been trying to envision in my mind how I want our bedroom to look.  I've always been a HUGE fan of all white bedding.  It's what we've had in our master bedroom in our townhouse for the past year or so.  White bedding screams clean, crisp and relaxing to me.  Plus it's so easy to add a punch of color and swap out throw pillows and sheets for a completely different look.  However I used our white bedding from our townhouse in one of our guest bedrooms.  And the more I think about it, the more I wonder how smart is it for us to have white bedding with a newborn...

I've been keeping close tabs on all my favorite home decorating websites to find bedding I love for when the time comes to decorate our master bedroom.  I've been keeping my eye on this set from West Elm.  It's not something I would normally jump at right away.  It's a tad 'busy' for my preference in a master bedroom.  However the more I look at it tho, the more I love it.  And let's be honest, I'm absolutely addicted to all things chevron.

So... I'm on the fence on whether I should purchase it now and hold the set until we are ready to purchase furniture or not.  Having flashbacks of past experiences makes me want to order up the bedding now because what if it's gone when I'm finally ready to decorate?  It's easier to return something than it is to find something that is no longer available anymore.

Maternity Shoot

I'm super excited for tomorrow.  My ever so talented friend, Nat, is going to shoot my maternity photos for me.

With that said ... I brainstormed for a while yesterday on what I plan on wearing.  I definitely want to show off the belly, but also be comfortable and "myself" in the photos.  With it being in the 90's tomorrow I needed to keep the temp in consideration as well.

And this is what I came up with ~

I'm lovin' the simplicity of it all.  It's very "Court" and exactly what I envisioned wearing for my shoot.  Plus the yellow and turquoise are my absolute favorite colors at the moment and I knew I wanted to incorporate pops of those colors.

Now I'm off to practice how to smile all while sucking in my chipmunk cheeks.

32 Weeks

Thursday, June 28, 2012

Our peanut is now the size of a squash according to thebump.com

"Still growing, your baby weighs in at about 2.5 to 3.8 pounds and measures about 15.2 to 16.7 inches.  She's getting ready for her descent -- she's likely in the head-down position now.  And she's probably feeling a even more cramped."

They got that right on the more cramped part.  I can feel every little twitch, turn, punch and hiccup.  Sometimes I just sit back and watch my stomach move all around, wondering what on earth s/he is doing in there.

With time just ticking away I made a list of things I need to accomplish in the very near future.

  • Pack Hospital Bag
I don't want to over pack altho that is my specialty.  We live 10/15 mins from the hospital so in all reality if anything gets left behind the hubs can swing home and grab it.

  • Hang Wall Art, Shelves and Poms
The shelves still need to be purchased.  The poms have been ordered from Etsy and have yet to arrive.  Since we are not finding out if this peanut is a boy or girl I am waiting for his/her arrival before I purchase his/her first initial letter which I want hung above the crib.

  • Wash and Fold Baby Outfits
Due to my love for laundry I can't wait to get started on this!

  • Purchase Remaining Registry Items
We received so many much needed items off our registry from both of our showers.  However there are a few key pieces we still need to purchase - pack n play, and extra base for the hubs' vehicle, humidifier and video monitors.  May need to get a 2nd job first...

I'm hoping to knock off the washing/folding, registry items and also start packing the hospital bag this weekend.  That's the goal at least.

How far along:  32 weeks
Maternity Clothes?  Of course, however I'm having such a love/hate relationship with them right now.  Some days I love them and other days I really miss my 'normal clothes'.  I hate being limited to such a small section in my closet.
Stretch Marks?  No!  At my last doctor's appointment my doctor made mention on what a beautiful stomach I had, how I had zero stretch marks and how I'm so lucky to have such great skin.  Let's hope she's saying this at the end of my pregnancy!
Sleep:  Absolutely love it.  I'm tired.  My energy is fizzling and laying on the couch always seems to be preferred over vacuuming Tiko's furballs daily.  Which is so not me.
Best Moment this Week:  Seeing the hubs come in with a brand new gallon of milk.  We were out for a few days and I was starting to go crazy not being able to quench my milk addiction.
Miss Anything?  Being able to enjoy being outside in the summer.  I absolutely hate it right now and just want to hibernate indoors with the AC.
Movement:  Can't get enough.  I've said it before, I don't like being pregnant.  But I have to admit that the movement is by far the best thing in the world and I know I will miss it once I'm not pregnant.
Food Cravings:  Ice, milk and popsicles.  The first thing I've done this week after coming home from work was get myself a popsicle.  I have no idea where this craving is coming from, but I like it! :)
Anything making you queasy or sick?  Gum - still.
Gender:  I have no idea anymore.  I've always said girl but with everyone telling me they think it's a boy, I'm confused.
Labor Signs:  Nothing.  Braxton Hicks should be starting here soon - or maybe they have and I haven't even noticed?
Belly Button in or out?  In, stretched and not so cute!
Wedding Rings on or off?  Off.
Happy or Moody Most of the Time:  Happy!  Altho I have been a tad emotional lately.
Looking Forward to:  Touring the maternity unit this weekend :)

Slackin' ... Pink or Blue?

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

I totally skipped last weeks 31 week post.  Ooops.  With 2 baby showers, traveling to Chicago, a first communion, finding homes for all of our new baby gear and working full time - my blog has gotten away from me.

My baby showers are over.  It makes me sad yet happy.  Sad that the time seems to be moving so fast at this point and happy that we are so blessed to be showered so many much needed and creative gifts.  Babies are expensive.  I just don't know how someone would be able to purchase everything they needed on  their own for their little one.  It would break the bank.

Last night I took inventory on all of our gifts and was so overwhelmed with the feeling of being so blessed.  Our family and friends really outdid themselves.  Our little peanut isn't even here yet and s/he is already so spoiled.  We are truly so lucky to have such an amazing family and friends.

We received some of the cutest boy and girl clothes as gifts.  Looking at them side by side last night made my head hurt.  Pink or blue?  What's it going to be?  I've come to the point where I really wish we knew what we were having.  Waiting it out is hard

30 Weeks

Thursday, June 14, 2012

Wow.  30 weeks today.  According to thebump.com our peanut is the size of a cucumber and weighs in around 2.5 to 3.8 pounds.   A snippet from my weekly email:

"At 30 weeks, your belly’s doing more than just making it tough to find a comfortable sleeping position. It’s made itself a conversation piece. Everywhere you go, someone seems to have a comment about your physical appearance, which isn’t always so fun. And no doubt, you’ve encountered quite a few people who don’t think before they speak and say something embarrassing or hurtful (what’s up with that?)"

In the last week I've encountered several comments that were a tad hurtful.  I really don't think people think before they speak.  I am overly sensitive so that could play a part in all this as well.  But to know me is to know that I'm highly self-conscious when I'm not pregnant so now, being pregnant, my self-consciousness is on ultimate awareness.  But, I'm brushing off the comments and trying not to let them get to me.  If I dwell on them I'll just be unhappy and that's the last thing I want to be during this period in my life.

Yellow!  My favorite color to wear, next to black that is.  I look kinda crabby huh?  I swear, I'm happier today than what the photos portray.  :) <--- see!

How far along:  30 weeks - ekkkk!
Maternity Clothes?  You betcha!  (Said in a Minnesotan accent of course.)
Stretch Marks?  My daily cocoa butter applications must be working because I have none.
Sleep:  More of it please!  I've been pretty tired this week.  3rd trimester exhaustion must be setting in.
Best Moment this Week:  Duhh, receiving my nursery furniture!  I can't wait for the hubs to assemble it this weekend!
Miss Anything?  Not really.  I can't think of anything at the moment.
Movement:  It's amazing how much I feel him/her!  I love it so much.  I was laying on the couch last night and put my cell phone on my stomach and just loved watching it move all around.
Food Cravings:  Ice.  Still.  I seriously love chomping ice and can't stop!
Anything making you queasy or sick?  I still can't chew gum without gagging.
Gender:  I'm to the point that I just don't even know anymore.  I have said girl from the beginning but now since everyone says I'm carrying as if I'm having a boy, I  have no idea.  And frankly, it doesn't matter to me.  I just want a healthy baby.
Labor Signs:  Nah.  Hopefully not anytime soon either.  This little one still needs to cook for a while.
Belly Button in or out?  Still in surprisingly.  But it's not pretty.  Let's just leave it at that.
Wedding Rings on or off?  Off.  I miss my bling.
Happy or Moody Most of the Time:  Happy!
Looking Forward to:  My Minnesota baby shower this Saturday, the hubs repainting the nursery and assembling the crib and dresser!

Maxi Dresses & Baby Names

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

I've come to the point in my pregnancy where I choose comfort vs. fashion.  I never thought I'd ever admit that.  Tomorrow I will be 30 weeks and let's face it, the belly's getting bigger which results in making it harder to move around and be comfortable.  I keep saying to C that I can't believe this is what fat people feel like 24/7.  I could never live like this.  I miss my flat stomach and being able to spring out of bed.  But, as Heather says, it's all for the greater good.  And I know it is.  10 more weeks (give or take).  I got this!

To finish off my pregnancy in the hot summer days I have these simple and comfy maxi dresses in my Old Navy bag right now.

Yes, 2 black maxi dresses. It's my favorite color to wear and in my opinion, a girl can never have enough black.

I have never loved cotton dresses as much as I do now.  So comfy and easy.

Switching up the subject.

C&I are firm on our girl and boy names we've selected.  We've actually been pretty firm on them since before I was even pregnant.  I'd love to share them but we are keeping them under wraps until s/he is here.  Today however I stumbled across a new girl name that I can't get out of my head.  I keep saying it over and over and the more I say it, the more I like it.  Of course, the first thing I did was google it's rank on the baby name charts.  Popular names are such a turn off to me.  There are just too many Sophias, Olivias, Jacobs and Aidens nowadays.  I was happy to see that this new girl name is ranked in the 400's.

I have not ran this name by the hubs yet.  I'm excited to see if he likes it or not.  And to be honest, I don't even know if I love it enough to change our solid girl name we have selected.  Either way, thinking of names to name your future son or daughter is exciting :)

Last night the hubs painted me a nice big swatch of the new color I selected for the nursery.  Elephant Skin by Behr.  It's perfect.  I love it.  It's exactly what I envisioned the nursery walls to look like but obviously couldn't nail on the head during my first attempt.  It's the perfect background for my white crib and dresser.  I seriously love it so much that I might even continue this color into our master bedroom.

This Friday the hubs plans on repainting the nursery.  Once that is complete then he can start assembling this:

Ekkk!  My nursery furniture has arrived!  I'm so thrilled!  I've been stressing so much about it lately because it wasn't supposed to show up until 2 weeks prior to my due date.  I love that it's here nice and early and the nursery will be completely finished before our little peanut arrives.

Happy, Happy Court.

My 2 Babies

29 Weeks

Friday, June 8, 2012

Our peanut is definitely not the size of a peanut anymore.  S/he is the size of a acorn squash this week!  I have to be honest, I'm glad thebump.com showed a picture of what an acorn squash looked like because I've never seen one or had one.

I realize stripes are not a pregnant girl's friend, but I love stripes so much!  Especially black and white stripes!

How far along:  29 weeks, 1 day
Maternity Clothes?  Yes!  I might actually swing into Macy's today at lunch to pick up a few new things.  My wardrobe is pretty limited.
Stretch Marks?  Zip, zero, zilch!
Sleep:  I have been sleeping a lot more lately than usual.  C keeps telling me my snoring at night keeps him awake.  Huh?  Come on, girls don't snore.  Silly C.
Best Moment this Week:  Receiving a check from Comcast of $140 due to an overpayment.  THANK YOU!!!
Miss Anything?  I miss walking up the stairs without becoming out of breath.  This basketball under my shirt is diminishing my lung capacity.
Movement:  Room is getting cramped in there so I am feeling every little kick, punch and roll.  I love it :)
Food Cravings:  Ice.  Is that strange?  I don't know why but I have to fill my glass with it and crunch every single cube lately.  I can't get enough.
Anything making you queasy or sick?  Just the look of my toes/feet right now.  I'm in desperate need of a pedicure!
Gender:  While at my doctor appointment on Tuesday I almost talked myself into asking the doctor to find out the gender since C wasn't with me.  Don't worry, I didn't.  I can wait 11 more weeks (give or take).
Labor Signs:  Nope.  Altho my doctor did ask me if I have had any contractions yet.  What?  Seriously?
Belly Button in or out?  Stretched and huge!  But thankfully it hasn't popped out yet.  Maybe it won't?  Fingers crossed!
Wedding Rings on or off?  Off.  I wonder if strangers think I'm some knocked up hoe...
Happy or Moody Most of the Time:  Happy!
Looking Forward to:  Dinner with friends at our house tomorrow night.

High Five For Friday

Today I’m linking up with Lauren at From My Grey Desk.

1.  It's a beautiful day in the Mpls today.  I cruised in with my sunroof open, windows down, hair blowing in the wind and jamming to a little Luke Bryan (fav!).

2.  Tomorrow night we are having another couple over to "grill and chill" at our new crib.  I'm super excited to have our first dinner with friends in our new home!

3.  I would like to pat myself on the back for bringing my lunch to work the past 4 days.  I've been in a rut of eating out for lunches daily for the past couple weeks.  It's expensive and can be super unhealthy.  I'm super proud of myself for saving some $ and eating healthier this week.  I'm sure our baby appreciates it as well :)

4.  So happy to have found new glass apothecary jars for our master bathroom at HomeGoods yesterday.  I didn't want to spend a fortune and needed a certain size and, as always, HomeGoods pulled through for me.

5.  I came home from work yesterday to find Tiko laying in his bed like a perfect dog.  No toilet paper shreddings all over this house.  C did have to stop at the house before I got home and said he found a roll of toilet paper removed from my decorative bin and places on the floor of our bathroom tho.  Tiko must have have thought about being destructive and quickly remembered how mad I was at him the past few days and changed his mine :)  Good dog, happy Court.

Pom Placement

Thursday, June 7, 2012

Tissue poms are huge in nurseries right now.  It's such a cheap and easy way to add decoration and a pop of color.  I have to admit, I'm loving them and definitely want to incorporate poms in our little peanut's nursery.

There are so many variations of pom clusters above the crib.  Big clusters, small clusters, a variation of big and small poms, all big poms, off centered, centered, across the entire crib ... options are really endless.

And then I stumbled upon this super simple pom arrangement and kinda love it.  Sometimes less is more.  I am also incorporating a letter into my nursery design and really like the placement and simplicity of where the "E" is in this photo.

And then I saw this pom arrangement over the glider.  I kinda love this too.

Now, not only do I have to decide on what size and color poms to get, but now I also need to decide the exact placement.  Should be simple, right?  Uh huh.  Sure.  I've been spending so much time getting inspiration for my nursery design that I can't even make the simplest decisions nowadays.

So, any suggestions are welcome :)

  • We FINALLY have internet at the house.  Three weeks without it is three weeks too long.  Like I've said before, you can only do so much online with your iphone.  It felt so good to see the glow of my computer screen again.  And to think there was a time when the internet was a word nobody knew of.

  • I miss the days of sleeping on my stomach.

  • The last two days I have come home from work to find rolls of toilet paper shredded throughout the house.  This is something a puppy would do, not an 8 year old dog.  What is going on with Tiko?  He's never done something like this before.  The first time he did it, I actually laughed a little.  But yesterday I pretty much flew off the handle.  Light switch much?  Maybe this is his way of acting out and showing his anxiety for the new family member arriving in 11 weeks (give or take)?

  • I wish I had more hours in the day.  There are so many things I would like to do around the house that I just never get to.  After working all day, walking the dog, eating dinner, cleaning up and getting some laundry started I am drained and just want to relax on the couch.  I feel like my energy is slowly getting sucked out of me this third trimester.  I have way too much to get done in the house before the baby arrives so I really need to snap out of it.

  • I'm the last one on the planet that has not read The Hunger Games.  Everyone has moved on to Fifty Shades of Grey and left me in their dust.  I would rather use my time sleeping than reading at this point.  I'm sure it will take me a year to read the series the rate things are going.

  • My maternity wardrobe is very limited.  I wear the same thing basically every week.  I might change it up with a different necklace or shoes.  I have 1 pair of maternity shorts for the summer.  I'm debating if I should use my $75 Macy's gift card on myself for maternity clothes or save it for things for the house.  Is it silly to purchase new clothes knowing I have 11 weeks (give or take) left?  Maybe I should suck it up and make what I have already work...  On the flip side, I just used my $50 Target gift card towards a piece of new furniture for the house so maybe I should spend a little on myself.

Add to Cart

C&I have been on the hunt for a TV console to  hold all of our electronic components (blu-ray, direct TV box & receiver) for weeks now.  Since our TV is mounted over the fireplace the only place for the components to go is on the side of the fireplace in a pretty little console.  Seems like a simple piece of furniture to find, right?  Wrong.  Pretty sure we have been to every furniture store in Minnesota.  Twice.  Either we are way too picky (probably the case) or everything is just ugly to us or not our style.  Of course the few consoles that we found, liked and fit our measurement criteria have been the wrong color.

So for the past week or so all of our components have been neatly stacked on a glass end table next to our fireplace.  It's so ghetto looking and seeing the wires everywhere is absolutely killing me.

I decided to spend some time online searching the web for exactly what I have in mind.  I'm definitely a touch and see girl so ordering something online pains me.  I hate returning things.  I hate receiving an item and it not fulfill my expectations.  But, in this case, I took a huge deep breath and clicked 'add to cart' and checked out.

We ended up purchasing this console.  Free shipping, 15% off and a $50 gift card applied to the price made it such a bargain.  I'm praying it looks just as great in person.

Keep your fingers crossed for me that I love it enough not to return it!

YAY for Friday

Friday, June 1, 2012

I know it was a short week but it felt like such a long one for me.  My week is even shorter than everyone's since I started my summer hours at work today.  Every other Friday I can leave the office at 11:30.  How awesome is that?  I'm counting down the hours as I type.

I will be stopping by Home Depot on my way home today to pick up some paint swatches and samples.  I think I have found a shade of gray (crap, or is it grey?) that has no blue undertones in it.  I've seen some nurseries online painted this color and they look so good.  Or as good as a computer screen can convey.  Let's hope I get it right this time.  I've never had such a problem picking out a paint color in my life!

In other house related news our surround sound is getting installed as I type.  I think it's C's favorite aspect of the house at the moment.  Just having music flowing through the house is going to be so nice.  Especially this summer and while entertaining.  I especially love the feature of having everything at our fingertips in the master bathroom.  Now I can finally drown out C's shower singing with some tunes!

Tomorrow our Direct TV will be installed.  Finally!  After 3 weeks of living without a TV we can finally connect to the world again.  It sounds so old and frumpy of me, but I cannot wait to watch the news tomorrow night!  You know you are getting old when you look forward to watching the news... Tonight however will be tacos and movie night.  Can't wait to watch our first movie in our new home (so cheesy, I know!)

Tuesday our internet will be installed.  AMEN!  It's been such a pain not having the internet at home.  You can only do so much with your iphone and while at work.  I've been itching to get behind the computer and edit photos that have been sitting on my card for over a month!

This reminds me.  C&I fell off the wagon.  We did so good every Saturday with documenting my baby bump growth.  Somewhere in the mix of packing and moving we completely forgot to document my bump.  Do I pick it back up tomorrow or do I just throw the towel in at this point.  I'm so mad about this.  And I must say, C was getting pretty good at shooting in aperture priority!

In nursery news, I'm feeling really good about my nursery design.  C will repaint this weekend and then I'll be ready to roll with my vision.  Of course, I still need to wait on the furniture.  I pray it arrives sooner vs. later.  I should receive my custom curtains and bed skirt next week or the following week.  I ordered a huge wooden print that I hope looks perfect above the crib.  Fingers crossed.  This morning I ordered a few other decorative pieces.  I was going to post pics of my new purchases but I think I will hold off and wait for the big nursery reveal.  I have to say tho I'm still on the hunt for that perfect turquoise side table for my glider.  I found one online that I like but can't justify paying the price tag for.  It will be my back up to my back up in case I cannot find anything in the next couple weeks.  I keep popping in Home Goods every couple days (and will again today on my way home) in the hopes of finding the turquoise table that I should have purchased weeks ago.  I'm kicking myself for not purchasing it.  Dumbest thing I never did.  Note to self: you like it, buy it.  Never wait.  It's easier to return something vs. trying to find it when it's nowhere to be found.

Have a great weekend!  I'm looking forward to being home with C and getting some house related stuff checked off the list.
